8 Important Things to Remember When Prepping Your Video for Submission

Updated August 2026

  1. Watch for typos and grammatical errors in any written text. Have someone else proofread everything before submitting it!
  2. Make sure to use copyright free material. Look for royalty-free images and music that you have permission to use.
  3. Keep your speaking pace natural and easy to follow. If you have too much to say within the time limit, edit your script to focus on what’s most important.
  4. Make sure you give a strong and creative solution to your presented problem. Recycling is awesome, but it’s one that we hear a lot. Think outside the box in order to help your video stand out.
  5. Use a consistent tone of voice throughout the video, this is especially important for videos containing multiple speakers. It can be distracting if one person is super upbeat and the other person is completely monotone.
  6. Reduce background noise, so we can hear what you’re saying clearly. Try recording in a quiet space like your bedroom, your teacher’s office, or even a closet!
  7. Mind the time limit. You have 60 seconds or less. Make sure your final sentence, narration, and visuals are complete. Don’t let your video cut off mid-sentence at the 60-second mark. Keep in mind that the 5-second title slide and a citation slide at the end do not count toward the 60-second video limit.
  8. Watch your finished video all the way through. Before submitting, play the final exported file from beginning to end. Check that the audio works, text is readable, visuals display correctly, and nothing gets cut off.
