Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis from the opening of the contest on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to Wednesday, March 3rd, 2027.

All entries must be uploaded by 11:59 pm EST on Wednesday, March 3, 2027.

As many as you want! We will judge each entry individually. Keep in mind that it is better to spend more time perfecting one high quality video than turning in several lower-quality videos.

Students may be located anywhere in the world. Videos in languages other than English are welcome, but they must include English subtitles. Double-check for typos, as spelling errors can lead to disqualification.

Yes, they can be disqualified if they:

• Use copyrighted materials
  • If you are unsure whether an item is copyrighted or inappropriate, run it by your parents or teachers. If there are still questions, just don’t use it. Better safe than sorry
• Have issues with length
  • The video cannot be more than 60 seconds long; however, the 5-second title slide or a works cited slide at the end of the video does not count towards the 60-second time limit.
• Lack appropriate forms
  • You must submit an entry form when submitting. Students in middle school or under the age of 13 in the U.S. and all international students must submit the parent/guardian participation consent form as well.
  • If chosen as a finalist, additional forms will be required as well to move forward in the judging process.
• Use incorrect facts
  • Make sure you double-check your sources. If your video is a finalist, you will be required to submit your works cited.
• Have audio issues (unable to hear or understand what is being said)
  • Adding subtitles will reduce any audio confusion, but make sure to double-check for typos!
• Have spelling errors
  • Spell-check your video before submitting.
• Have inappropriate content

Begin with the Topic Overview associated with your global topic (you can find them here: City Planning, Fresh Water Use, and Extreme Weather) – they provide a broad look at the topics and will help you choose which to focus on. Then head over to the Background Readings and learn about some of the subtopics associated with your chosen global topics. The Background Readings include information, statistics, and great sources for doing further research.

We recommend including a list of citations at the end of your video, but it is not required. If you do include a citation slide at the end, it will not count towards the 60-second total time for the video.

The best equipment is the equipment you already have! If you have a great camera, if not, a smartphone works just as well. For editing, there are many free apps you can download or that are available through a browser.

Remember that we are judging entries based more on content than on style, and so you shouldn’t worry if you don’t have experience with these technologies. You can make a great video with even the most basic equipment and a creative mind.

Yes! A smartphone is a great tool for making video entries. There are many apps available that can make the recording and editing process easier for you.

Todos los vídeos deben ingresarse en formato digital. No aceptaremos grabaciones de audio únicamente ni vídeos grabados en cintas VHS.

Si bien nos gusta más MP4, generalmente aceptaremos cualquiera de los siguientes formatos: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, asf, asx, avi, divx, mts, m2t, m2ts, m2v, m4v, mkv, mov, mp4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, ogg, wmv.

La resolución del video debe ser 640×480 para video 4:3 de definición estándar, 853×480 para DV de pantalla ancha y 1280×720 o 1920×1080 para alta definición. Once you have perfected your video, upload your video using the submission form. First, fill out the online entry form information. Then, you’ll need to browse your computer files, choose your video, and upload it just as you would an email attachment. Let us know if you have any technical problems.

Finalists from each global topic area will be notified in April of 2027. Being chosen as a finalist means that your video is one of the top 10 videos (high school) or top 6 videos (middle school) and will go on to be judged by our panel of experts. There will not be a general announcement of finalists.

All winners will be notified directly no later than Tuesday, May 18, 2027. A complete list of winners, along with the winning videos, will be posted at https://www.worldof8billion.org/.
