لماذا تغير اسم المسابقة إلى "عالم بليونين"؟

The current name of the student video contest – عالم الثمانية مليارات – is based on the current global population, which is set to reach 8 billion people in November 2022.

For the past 11 years, the name of the contest was عالمُ السبعة مليارات. Global population reached 7 billion in 2010, the same year the contest was launched. At the time, Population Education was looking for a way to help teachers mark the population milestone, and a video contest proved to be a fitting project. The contest let students learn about global population growth a fun and unique way, while also gaining important digital and communication skills.

Changing the contest name to عالم الثمانية مليارات was the natural next step to keep up with current events as global population continues to grow. And now that the 8 billion milestone is right around the corner, once again teachers can use the student video contest to mark this teachable moment.
