Korea International School Jeju Campus Seogwipo, South Korea
Pete Kim, and partners Jason Tark and Henry Ko, are sophomores at the Jeju Campus of the Korea International School and they created their video as an assignment in their Global Studies class. Living in the Jeju province, located on an island in the Korea Straight, ocean health is a topic of which they’ve always been intimately aware. Pete explains that while growing up, he’d hear “adults discussing foreign countries coming to the area and overfishing.” He and his partners thought it would be cool to make a video showcasing what they see happening right in their community.
Because many school projects at KIS require video, this was not the first film created by the group members and they did have experience with video editing. They were also lucky to have a talented artist in the group – Jason hand drew everything in the film, diligently creating the visuals that made up the beautiful, yet powerful, final product. (During the interview with Pete, he made a point to thank Jason for his hard work on the artwork.) The group found conducting the research a bit tedious, wanting to be sure they found just the right facts to represent their message and strong, reliable sources.
After the school year ends, Pete will spend the summer on Korea’s mainland attending academy. Long-term, he thinks he might like to become a software engineer. He likes to play videos in his free time and is on the school’s basketball team.
